Is This The Worst 5 Star Hotel Breakfast Buffet in Bangkok?

There’s one thing better than a lazy Sunday breakfast… It’s having a ginormous buffet breakfast at a 5 star hotel!

So that’s what Paul and I decided to do when we were staying at the luxury hotel… SO Sofitel Bangkok in Sathorn.

You can read our review of this hotel HERE.

The buffet breakfast is in the Red Oven Restaurant…

After taking the lifts down from our room to level 7, the first thing we noticed was this…

Interesting… a random massive white deer in a pool of water! This is just one of many artistic structures in this SO Sofitel. I’ll show you another one soon!

Now, opposite this deer was the entrance to the Red Oven…

As soon as we walked in a staff member asked for our room number and guided us to our table.

He mentioned that on Sunday the breakfast buffet was open until 11am. Awesome! We can have a really relaxing breakfast then.

We were seated at a table for 2 and we immediately noticed how dark it was…

If you had to read a menu I’d say you’d probably need a torch!

TIP:

If you want to have a seat with lots of natural light… at the entrance ask to sit on the right hand side of the restaurant.

Also, the furniture they had wasn’t that comfortable, particularly for Paul who is about 5ft 11 (about 180cm).

The table was quite low. We couldn’t even slide our chairs under the table…

Several times Paul forgot about this.

So when he came back to the table he would begin to slide his chair under the table… but then there was a LOUD “thud” as the chair smashed against the table!

Annoying!

Not ideal but never mind, we got over it.

So let’s check out the breakfast food offerings at the Red Oven Restaurant.

Behind our table was a shelf full of cold, fresh coconuts. They even had SO Sofitel engraved in them!

My first plate had jackfruit, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, and 5 different types of cheeses. Aside from sugar, salt and pepper, on the table there was also honey and spreads…

The jackfruit was so delicious. If you haven’t had it before it has like a bubblegum type flavor. It’s one of my favorite fruits thanks to our travels through South East Asia!

There were so many fruits that if I had them all I wouldn’t have room for much else! With the fruits were a range of yogurts too.

Next to the fruit was a salad bar…

Beside this was a table full of juices and bubble tea. On the day there were 3 juices that were fresh, which was great!

Opposite this were some sliced breads for toasting which included carrot bread!

If you wanted more gourmet bread loaves you could find them in the deli section along with 5 different cheeses…

Alongside these were cold meats…

Other deli items included artichokes, sun dried tomatoes and olives… Paul and I were so disappointed that we didn’t see these until near the end of our feed. We were so full but managed to find room for a couple more plates!

There were lots of seeds and nuts, different varieties of cereals, dried fruits, and muesli…

There was a gluten free corner…

In amongst the hot food section was a vegetarian section…

Other hot foods included bacon, ham, sausages, chicken and HEAPS more food…

There was a noodle soup station made to order…

There were stir fried vegetables and red curry vegetables too…

There were different egg dishes including omelettes and frittatas, as well as baked beans. The potatoes were some of the best we’ve ever had. The herbs like rosemary made them so flavorful it was so hard to stop eating them!

We absolutely loved the mushrooms too…

If you wanted different types of eggs made to order, there was also a live egg station with many options to choose from.

Unless you go wandering all around the restaurant, you may miss the Japanese corner as it’s tucked away. Once you see the fresh coconuts…

Keep walking down past the long table and the Japanese section will be on your right hand side…

We found the Japanese section a little boring compared to the rest of the buffet. While the re-stocking of the buffet food was mostly very good… the only area that wasn’t so good was in the Japanese section.

At times the condiments for the miso soup was empty or near empty. In saying that the miso soup was tasty!

OMG there were so many buffet food choices. We definitely gave this all you can eat buffet a good nudge!

But Wait… There’s More!

After already gorging down mountains of food, there was more to try including items in the Wellness section, which included 3 types of energy balls…

OK, yes, I snuck in a croissant as well which was rich and buttery. They even had a whole wheat version too. I found the croissants in the danish and pastry section. There were even more breads here too!

Next to this were a variety of spreads…

Next to the spreads were waffles, pancakes, crepes and french toast…

Want more? How about some donuts, cakes, muffins and more sweet treats…

And to top it all off, I had to try the ice-cream. There were plenty of mouth-watering flavors. We had brownie, vanilla and chocolate. The chocolate was to die for!

We ate so much food it wasn’t funny.

We almost needed someone to roll us out of the restaurant to the lifts! LOL!

The worst thing about this breakfast buffet at the Red Oven, is that we needed more time to try more foods. Believe it or not, there’s even more food on top of what I’ve mentioned in this blog!

Even though we spent a couple of hours here we could have stayed for longer. Overall, the food quality was excellent and seasoned well.

As mentioned we were staying at SO Sofitel. As we were Platinum status with Le Club Accor Hotels loyalty program, our buffet breakfast was complimentary.

The Red Oven buffet price at breakfast is about 850++ per person (about USD $27++).

Breakfast hours are:

Monday to Friday from 6:30am to 10:30am
Saturday and Sunday from 6:30am to 11:00am

We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and if you were to pay for it, it’s worth it.

So whether or not you’re staying at SO Sofitel Bangkok, we recommend you treat yourself and give it a go!

It’s SO good :-)

By the way, remember the deer? If you need to go to the toilets you’ll see this on your way…

ENJOY!
