Paul and I were staying at the Mercure Hanoi La Gare Hotel in Vietnam for a couple of nights.
This Mercure Hotel is on 94 Lý Thường Kiệt, in Hoàn Kiếm.
And as we were Le Club Accor Hotels Platinum Members… one of the benefits was complimentary buffet breakfast.
So as we’d planned on doing quite a bit of sightseeing, it was a great way to start the day.
Normally, if the breakfast wasn’t included the room rate, it would cost about 264,000 VND (about USD $11.35) per person. That’s crazy cheap, right?
Inside The Brasserie Le Pavillion
The breakfast buffet was in the Brasserie Le Pavillion, which is on the Ground Floor of the La Gare Hotel.
To get there, we had to walk past the bar area first.
Then as we walked in, there was no-one else in sight except for us and the staff. We had the Le Pavillion restaurant all to ourselves!
It was an interesting set up in the restaurant… All the tables were set up communal style. So if you wanted to have a private chat this wouldn’t be possible inside the restaurant.
Plus, with a lot of Vietnamese, they like to chew and slurp their food LOUDLY! So on the second morning, our peaceful breakfast was disrupted by a lot of lip smacking at FULL VOLUME… LOL!
The roof of the restaurant was clear glass, which I liked for something different. Also, along one part of the wall a shelving area had been set up. On this were a variety of books on Vietnam, which we could take to peruse while relaxing.
In the restaurant area it had seating for about 24 people. So if there were more than that, guests would sit outside the main breakfast buffet area in the bar.
Yet, the good thing was it was well air conditioned in all the areas.
The Buffet Breakfast Spread At Hotel Mercure Hanoi La Gare
When we first walked in, on the left was a section with juices, water, tea and coffee. As well as cereals and milk…
A staff member took us to a couple of seats, and asked if wanted coffee or tea to start. I thought I’d indulge and have a café sua da. And Paul had his usual Americano.
Here’s my Vietnamese coffee, and it was so flavorful. I could’ve had another but if I did, I’d be climbing up and down the walls from the excessive coffee hit!
Opposite the drinks station was a Vietnamese pho section, and we could get eggs cooked to order. We took advantage of that and had some omelettes…
And around the corner from that was an array of food warmers…
And here there was a range of dishes… including soup, steamed buns, stir fry noodles, vegetables, baked beans, sausages, bacon and more. Plus, they had mashed potatoes! Yum, yum!
And in the middle of the restaurant was a variety of food. On one side there were ingredients so we could make our own salad.
Plus, there were pre-made salads too. They were actually very delicious, and we loved the olives too.
But Wait, There’s More Food!
Next to the salad section was a variety of fresh fruit, which were whole as well as chopped up…
And then around the corner from that were cold sliced meats, butter, and cheese.
And last but not least, there was a bakery section. Here, the foods included sliced breads, mini bread rolls, baguettes and danishes.
The bread rolls were delicious! And we ended up making our own Vietnamese banh mi with butter, cheese and onion. They were so mouth-wateringly delicious!
Overall, we weren’t sure if there’d be much to eat… as it seemed like the breakfast buffet was small compared to other places we’d been to.
Yet, the choices were very good. And we left happy, with a full belly. So thankfully we walked off the food with our self-guided walking tour of Hanoi!
