My Must Have On My Travel Packing List For Carry On Luggage

Being full time travelers, Paul and I are often catching flights to destinations around the world.

And while carry on luggage weight limits vary across airlines and flight classes… there’s one thing I always put on my travel packing list.

So what I always take as one of my essential carry on items is, extra virgin coconut oil. In particular, I prefer to use raw, organic, cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil.

In general, there are plenty of benefits of coconut oil from beauty through to cooking. Yet, when I’m traveling it’s a great product to have as I can use it for many things.

Moisturizer

On longer plane trips, I definitely get dehydrated. And when I have a few alcoholic beverages on board, that dehydrates me even more!

So my extra virgin coconut oil is great for moisturizing my skin. And a little bit of oil goes a long way, so I won’t end up looking like a prune at the end of my journey!

Flavor Enhancer

I do love the smell and taste of a good coffee. And on our travels we’ve been spoilt with delicious coffees around the world.

Yet, if you’ve ever had a coffee or even tea on your flight, you may have noticed that some of the coffees are bloody awful. I generally don’t have coffee when flying because of that reason. Yet, sometimes I have a coffee for a kickstart.

That’s where the benefits of coconut oil comes in again, by being a flavor enhancer. I add a small amount into my cup and hey presto… I have coconut coffee!

Cleanser

On flights where we get the personal amenity kits… which includes things like toothbrush and toothpaste, we don’t use the toothpaste. That’s because the ingredients in them are usually rubbish.

So, as a replacement “toothpaste” we use the coconut oil. And if you happen to forget your toothbrush and toothpaste… have a small mouthful of coconut oil and swish it around your mouth for a few minutes. Then spit it out.

After a long haul flight your teeth might feel like they’ve got sheepskin covers on them! And your breath might not be the most pleasant.

So having the coconut oil is better than nothing, and your breath will be fresher.

How To Pack Your Coconut Oil For Carry On

While coconut oil is should be on your travel packing list… there’s the chance that it could end up in a big oily mess.

I’ve tried different ways to package it, some of which were unsuccessful! Yet, the best way I’ve found to pack it, is in one of these little jars…

You may have seen jars like these, which have spreads in them. Empty out one or two of these containers to put your coconut oil in. These are glass containers, so you need to be careful.

So in general, the carry on liquid size limit per piece is 100 milliliters (about 3.4 ounces). And one of these jars can hold about 30 mls.

I’ve found that the lids on these little jars are great for keeping the coconut oil intact. To date, I haven’t had any spillage!

Sometimes what I do as well, is wrap the jar in paper towel as a safety measure.

So there you have it… Coconut oil is definitely on my travel packing list for carry on luggage. And I recommend you do the same, even if you’re a male!
